Contact UsBook Formatting
To publish a book with Kindle Direct Publishing, we recommend formatting your manuscript and cover to our specifications. Full details and links to available resources are below. If you need specific instructions based on the word processor you’re using, please visit that company’s website for more resources (e.g. Microsoft Word, Google Docs, etc.).
Paperback Formatting
Paperbacks are books with soft covers (i.e. not a hardcover). Things to consider when formatting include: trim size, margins, and cover design. During the upload, you’ll be able to preview your book and fix any errors before publishing.
Hardcover Formatting
Unlike paperbacks, case-laminate hardcovers extend beyond the manuscript. It’s recommended you review those dimensions and make adjustments to your cover, as needed. In most other areas, the formatting of your manuscript is the same as paperback.
eBook Formatting
eBooks are digital books, where readers can access them on Kindle devices and apps. Areas to pay special attention to: which file type you’re using to upload as and how it converts into an eBook.
Tools & Resources
KDP offers a variety of tools and resources to help you with formatting your book. We recommend these if you’re not familiar with formatting a book within a word processor. Alternatively, if you want to hire professional help, you can find service providers on this page.
